Fill the base with water.
Over a sink, fit the lid into the dish. Allow the extra water overflow into the sink. Now your French Butter Dish is ready to use.
Most of the time your butter dish can be kept on the counter or table. However, in hot weather you may want to refrigerate it or the butter could drop into the water.
